The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons produced a strong all-round performance to defeat the Barbados Tridents by 30 runs in the CPL 2026, moving themselves to the top of the points table in the process.
The Falcons posted 155 for 5 after being put under pressure for much of their innings. Moeen Ali’s unbeaten 56 proved to be the difference with the bat, while Joshua James and Sufyan Moqim played key roles with the ball as the Tridents collapsed dramatically during their chase.
Tridents Start the Chase Quickly
Chasing 156, Barbados made a promising start.
Zachary Carter immediately put the Falcons under pressure, finding the boundary regularly in the opening overs. He struck two sixes and a four during the first two overs and looked determined to make the most of the Powerplay.
Shian Brathwaite, however, struggled to match that tempo and was dismissed for just seven from 14 deliveries.
Quinton de Kock then took responsibility for keeping the innings moving, but the Falcons received a major boost when Carter was dismissed in the sixth over.
Rakheem Cornwall added another important wicket when he removed de Kock in the eighth over, leaving Barbados in a position where they needed a partnership to rebuild the chase.
Rivaldo Clarke and Kevlon Anderson Bring Hope
For a while, it looked as though the Tridents had recovered.
Rivaldo Clarke and Kevlon Anderson put together a 39-run partnership that brought Barbados back into the contest. With the required run rate still manageable, the Tridents appeared to be in control at 93 for 3 in the 14th over.
Then everything changed.
Joshua James turned the match around in spectacular fashion.
He dismissed Anderson and Sherfane Rutherford from successive deliveries, putting Barbados under immediate pressure. Clarke fell in the following over, and Gudakesh Motie was dismissed just two balls later.
The most damaging part for Barbados was the manner of the dismissals. All four batters attempted aggressive shots and paid the price.
The Tridents went from 93 for 3 to 95 for 7 in just two overs.
Falcons Finish Strong With the Bat
Earlier in the match, Antigua and Barbuda had also found themselves in trouble.
Chris Green struck with the very first ball of the innings by bowling Cornwall, and the Falcons struggled to build a completely comfortable platform.
Amir Jangoo and Karima Gore managed to add 39 runs, but wickets continued to fall. By the 14th over, the Falcons were reduced to 80 for 5.
That was when Moeen Ali took control.
Along with Shamar Springer, Moeen began finding important boundaries and slowly changed the momentum of the innings. The Falcons then exploded during the final three overs.
They collected 49 runs during that period, completely transforming what had looked like a modest total.
Moeen saved his best for the final over, hitting three consecutive sixes to bring up his half-century. He finished unbeaten on 56 and ensured the Falcons reached 155 for 5 from their 20 overs.
Joshua James Seals the Win
The Tridents needed a strong finish to complete the chase, but the pressure created by the middle-order collapse proved too much.
Daniel Sams and Chris Green briefly threatened to extend the innings, but Joshua James returned to dismiss Sams in the 17th over, completing an excellent spell.
Sufyan Moqim then finished the job in the following over, taking the final two wickets with successive deliveries.
Barbados were eventually bowled out for 125 in 18 overs, falling 30 runs short of the target.
James finished with three wickets for 18 runs, while Moqim’s late strikes ensured there would be no dramatic final-over comeback.
Falcons Take Top Spot
The victory gives the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons four wins from seven matches and moves them to the top of the CPL 2026 points table.
For Barbados, the defeat will be particularly frustrating because they were in a strong position at 93 for 3. Losing four wickets for just two additional runs completely changed the game.
Moeen Ali’s unbeaten half-century gave the Falcons the platform they needed, but their bowlers deserve equal credit for turning a competitive chase into a comfortable victory.
