Smriti Mandhana’s outstanding run of form has added another historic chapter to her international career. The Indian opener has overtaken former captain Mithali Raj to become the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket, while also setting a new record for the most centuries across formats.
Mandhana reached the milestone during her fluent 124 against Hong Kong, China, in India’s second match of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2026 in Dubai.
It is the second major global record claimed by an Indian player this season. Deepti Sharma had earlier surpassed Jhulan Goswami’s career tally of 355 wickets during the T20 World Cup in England, making her the leading wicket-taker in women’s international cricket.

10,880 international runs
Mandhana has now scored 10,880 runs across Tests, ODIs and T20Is, moving past Mithali Raj’s previous record of 10,868.
Suzie Bates, Charlotte Edwards and Stafanie Taylor are the only other players to have scored more than 10,000 runs in women’s international cricket.

How the all-time record changed hands
England’s Myrtle Maclagan became the first woman to cross 1,000 international runs, achieving the landmark in Test cricket in July 1951. She remained at the top until Rachael Heyhoe-Flint overtook her in March 1969.
The record changed hands several times during the 1990s, with Janette Brittin and Debbie Hockley repeatedly replacing each other at the summit.
Belinda Clark moved ahead of Hockley during Australia’s tour of India in the 2004–05 season. Karen Rolton took over in 2009 before Charlotte Edwards reached the top a year later.
Edwards held the record for more than a decade. Mithali Raj eventually surpassed her in July 2021 and remained the leading run-scorer until Mandhana moved ahead on September 3, 2026.

A remarkable two-year stretch
Mandhana has been in exceptional form since South Africa’s tour of India in June 2024.
She scored 1,362 ODI runs in 2025, comfortably setting a new record for the most runs in a calendar year in the format. That prolific run also played a major role in India’s successful home World Cup campaign.
Her T20I century at Trent Bridge in 2025 had already placed her in an exclusive group of players to have scored hundreds in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. Tammy Beaumont, Heather Knight, Beth Mooney and Laura Wolvaardt are the other women to have achieved the feat.

Record 18 international centuries
Mandhana’s 18 hundreds are now the most by any player in women’s international cricket. She has moved ahead of Meg Lanning and Laura Wolvaardt, who have 17 centuries each.
Hayley Matthews follows with 15, while Suzie Bates and Tammy Beaumont have registered 14 apiece.
Mandhana’s record includes 14 ODI centuries and two hundreds each in Tests and T20Is. Only Lanning, with 15, has scored more ODI hundreds.
Career-best 124 in T20Is
Mandhana’s 124 against Hong Kong, China, is now the highest individual score by an Indian woman in T20Is. She improved on her own previous record of 112, made against England at Trent Bridge in 2025.
Harmanpreet Kaur is the only other Indian woman to have scored a T20I century. She made 103 against New Zealand during the 2018 T20 World Cup in Providence, Guyana.
Mandhana’s innings was also only the second century in Women’s T20 Asia Cup history. Chamari Athapaththu recorded the first when she struck an unbeaten 119 against Malaysia in Dambulla in 2024.
93 scores of fifty or more
Mandhana has drawn level with Mithali Raj for the most fifty-plus scores in women’s international cricket. Both players have registered 93 such innings across formats.
Charlotte Edwards is a distant third with 80.
Mandhana’s latest century was her 37th fifty-plus score in T20Is, extending her lead at the top of that list. Beth Mooney is next with 33.
95 T20I sixes
Mandhana has also become India’s leading six-hitter in women’s T20Is. Her career tally now stands at 95, taking her past Harmanpreet Kaur’s 89.
Only Sophie Devine, Deandra Dottin and Chamari Athapaththu have hit more sixes in the history of women’s T20Is.
Seven sixes in one innings
Mandhana cleared the boundary seven times during her knock of 124. It is the second-highest number of sixes hit by an Indian woman in a T20I innings.
Harmanpreet continues to hold the record after smashing eight sixes during her century against New Zealand in 2018.
Four calendar years with 500-plus T20I runs
Mandhana is the first player to score at least 500 Women’s T20I runs in four different calendar years.
Before crossing the mark in 2026, she had also achieved it in 2018, 2022 and 2024.
Chamari Athapaththu, Laura Wolvaardt, Esha Oza and Shafali Verma have each managed the feat in three separate years.
A 96-run difference between India’s top two scorers
Mandhana scored 124 while Shafali Verma contributed 28, creating a difference of 96 runs between India’s two highest scorers in the match. It is the widest gap between the team’s top two batters in a Women’s T20I innings.
The previous record was also led by Mandhana. She made 112 at Trent Bridge in 2025, while Harleen Deol was India’s next-highest scorer with 43—a difference of 69 runs.
Mandhana contributed 64.25% of India’s total
Mandhana’s 124 accounted for 64.25% of India’s final score. It is the second-highest individual contribution to a completed Indian innings in Women’s T20Is.
The record remains with Harmanpreet, who scored 41 out of India’s total of 62 against England at Billericay in June 2011. Her innings contributed 66.13% of the team’s score.
India finish with 193 for five
India’s total of 193 for five is the second-highest team score in Women’s T20 Asia Cup history.
The record is also held by India, who posted 201 for five against the UAE in Dambulla during the 2024 tournament.
India complete a 137-run victory
India won the match by 137 runs, their second-biggest victory by runs in Women’s T20Is. Their largest remains the 142-run win against Malaysia in 2018.
All four of India’s victories by 100 runs or more have come in multi-team tournaments.
The other two were a 104-run victory over the UAE in the 2022 Asia Cup and a 100-run win against Barbados at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
